Nordic Heritage Museum
The Nordic Heritage Museum is dedicated to preserving the heritage of Seattle’s Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, and Icelandic immigrants. This design was developed as an alternative design for the new (as of spring 2018) museum at its location on the Ballard waterfront.
The design makes a connection between Market Street, the main thoroughfare through Ballard, and the proposed route for the Burke Gilman Trail, a major recreational trail. It also makes a connection to the waterfront and the industry housed along the Ballard waterfront, which was (and remains) so vitally important to the Nordic immigrants in the area.
